I-69 Media Office
The I-69 Media Office is an independent clearinghouse for anti-I-69 information and action reporting. For any and all affinity groups taking action against I-69, we offer the following help:
• Workshops- we will do workshops in both Evansville and Bloomington for your group on how to write a good press release and how to be a good media contact persyn.
• How to guides- In addition to workshops, we offer a how-to guide on how to do your own media work (d.i.y. media), how to write press releases, and how to be a media contact
• Corporate Media Contacts- we have a list of corporate media contacts in the area with information regarding their relative friendliness or hostility towards the campaign.
We encourage all affinity groups to write their own press releases and assign members within their groups to be media contacts for the action. If the circumstances of the action make this difficult, the media office will provide the following help:
• Press Release Work- we will help groups construct good press releases from raw information or give feedback on completed press releases.
• Intermediary Media Contact- for groups that want a degree of separation between themselves and the media during their action, we will put our office contact information on the press release and field calls from the press. We will then pass the group’s contact information onto a pre-selected group of media outlets when they respond.
• Actual Media Contact- for groups that want no contact with the media but still want their action publicized, we will put our office contact information on the press release and read statements that were pre-written by the group to the media that responds (within reason, of course).
For groups producing independent media for the campaign, we offer the following assistance:
• Independent Media Contacts- we will keep a list of independent media outlets and their submission policies and procedures and help groups through the process of submitting independent media pieces.
• Workspace- within reason, we offer groups a space in Bloomington with internet, phone, and fax machine hookups to work on creating and distributing their independent media pieces.
